I started my window cleaning company in 1984. I still have my very first customer. At the time work was very scarce in British Columbia. A friend and my future son in law suggested that we go out and knock on doors and get some jobs, window cleaning, gutter cleaning or pressure washing. He had some experience and said he would show me the ropes on how to clean windows.
We did go out and knock on doors and began gathering up customers and after a month or two I began to realize that this was getting to be a good little going concern so I got the business registered as “The Window Cleaners.”
I had no idea at the time that this would be the way I would support my family for the years to come. I continued for the next 5 years to knock on doors on the weekends and then did the work through the following week. I worked very hard during those years, taking hardly any time off. I had four kids and a wife to support at the time.
After that I began having too much work to do all myself so I sub- contracted some of the work out to a friend of mine who was doing window cleaning also. Since that time the business has continued to expand mostly through word of mouth and some flyer distribution. The company now has three men doing window cleaning, pressure washing and gutter cleaning.
It is worthy of note that since 1984 there have been no workers compensation claims and only a couple of minor injuries. The company has many happy customers, many of which have been serviced for the past 23 years.
